John Kelley

Director of Neurofeedback
Licensed Psychologist

John earned a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology as well as a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. He began his career in as an Assistant Professor at Memphis State University where he taught psychology and statistical analysis courses for six years. He then migrated to Biola University in La Mirada, CA, a non-denominational, evangelical Christian school, where for 26 years he taught psychology, statistics, and co-taught with two other professors a cross-disciplinary course integrating theological, cross-cultural, and psychological concepts. He directed for 21 years the Biola Counseling Center, a service offering counseling to both Biola students and the broader southern California community. John was a contributing speaker for 24 years for the lay counseling program at First Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, CA and for 10 years at Community Baptist Church in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He served for 18 years as the clinical supervisor for the lay counseling program at Whittier Hills Baptist Church. More recently, he served as an Army psychologist for over 12 years.

John is provides services across a wide age span having worked with clients as young as 4 all the way up to the mid-80s. He is interested in the internal development of self-control and promoting the ability of clients to manage their challenges pertaining to anxiety, depression, trauma, attentional problems, anger, interpersonal conflict, loneliness, guilt, and lack of meaning. Having worked within both Christian and secular settings, John recognizes the Centrality of Christ in addressing human needs, longings, and dysfunction and uses it explicitly whenever possible with clients and implicitly as his own source of strength when it is not.

John holds active licenses as a psychologist in California and Missouri. He is certified by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance in both biofeedback (BCB) and neurofeedback (BCN). He was also certified by the Society for the Advancement of Brain Analysis in assessing brain function via Quantitative Electroencephalograph (QEEG) analysis. Biofeedback and neurofeedback are psychophysiological methods of enabling clients to learn calm their anxieties, elevate their depressive moods, focus their distracted minds, and address a variety of other dysfunctions by learning to better control their bodies, especially their brains.

John has been married to the love of his life, Carol, for over 48 years. Together, for many years, they sponsored a home school umbrella organization, Lighthouse Christian Academy, for their own children and as many as 24 families providing legal cover, academic support, social events, and drama programs for grade school and high school students. That has progressed to peripheral involvement enjoying their children home school their grandchildren.
